Why did DesignBUILD get rescheduled to 2021 after it was postponed?
In response to continuing uncertainty in terms of public gatherings and ongoing domestic and international travel restrictions, we have made the difficult decision to reschedule the May 2021 edition of DesignBUILD to 11- 13 October 2021.
It has become increasingly clear through conversations with our partners, exhibitors and key stakeholders that there is still a lack of clarity in terms of what the first half of 2021 will look like from a business perspective, and in our judgement it was in the best interests of all parties that we postpone the event.
DesignBUILD and Diversified Communications Australia, are conscious of our responsibility to protect the health and safety of our attendees, exhibitors, partners and staff.
What happens now?
While we may not have been able to host a physical event until Q4 of 2021 as planned, we know that the building & construction industry is set to play an essential role in rebuilding the national economy and in October 2020 we hosted our first Built Environment Summit, we have another summit scheduled for 17th May 2021. This is a new virtual event to help connect leading built environment professionals, government policymakers, and market experts to build a roadmap to recovery and pave the way for future construction and infrastructure development, outside of the traditional exhibition format.
You can also continue to check this website for future updates about DesignBUILD and new engagement opportunities as they become available.
Looking ahead, we invite you to mark your calendars for DesignBUILD on 11 – 13 October 2021 in Sydney when we will have the opportunity to connect in person.
I’m an exhibitor and/or sponsor, can I expect a refund?
All existing bookings have been transferred to the new October dates. We understand, however, that the date change is going to mean different things for each of our customers and we are committed to working closely with you to mitigate any impacts this may have. For those exhibitors that find themselves unable to commit to the new dates, several alternative options are available:
(a) the option to credit or part credit, any current deposits to secure your location towards the May 2022 event in Melbourne (holding on to current rates)
(b) credit towards digital and virtual opportunities to connect with your target audience
(c) bespoke solutions – tailored to your needs.
Due to the unprecedented nature of the situation, we ask for your patience as we work through the timing and details of these processes.
What do I do if someone tries to sell me the DesignBUILD databases and visitor lists?
This is a scam and you should ignore them. DesignBUILD operates under strict data privacy laws, and we do not share our visitor or any other internal data with unauthorised third parties.
Any communication you may receive offering you to rent/buy or download our visitor or exhibitor contacts is a scam and should be deleted. We are currently exploring legal avenues to shut down these practices.
When and where is DesignBUILD happening?
The next DesignBUILD event will next take place from 11- 13 October 2021 at the ICC Sydney.

Can international visitors attend DesignBUILD?
All international visitors need to apply for a business visa. The passport which you hold will determine whether you can apply online, or if you need to lodge a paper-based application. Before lodging any application please take note of any travel restrictions that may apply. Click here for more information.
Applications need to be made well in advance at the Australian Embassy in your country or in some cases can be made online. For more information visit the Department of Immigration website.
Please note that the organisers DO NOT provide visa invitation letters to international visitors.
Can children attend the expo?
As this is a business event for those people working in the industry, we ask visitors not to bring anyone under the age of 15 to the show. The exception is infants under one year old that cannot be separated from their primary caregiver. If you bring an infant we strongly recommend that you carry them in a baby harness due to crowds (strictly no prams or shopping trolleys allowed at the show). This applies to the children of both visitors and exhibitors. Under no circumstances are any children permitted into the exhibition halls during Move In and Move Out of the show.
Can students attend?
Students are welcome at DesignBUILD, however, they are required to pre-register online or have prior consent from the DesignBUILD team. Only students studying a related course will qualify for entry.
