10-12 May 2022
Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre

With the COVID-19  situation across the nation and Sydney in particular unfolding rapidly and the expansion of the lockdowns directly impacting the built environment sector, the DesignBUILD team have made the difficult decision to cancel the 2021 edition of DesignBUILD this October.

Read the full statement here.

Whilst it is not a decision we have taken lightly, we feel that the extension of the lockdowns in both Melbourne and Sydney and the impact this will have on business confidence and industry timelines mean that we are no longer able to confidently guarantee the thriving show floor that our audience expects.

We are also aware that our 2022 event scheduled for 10-12 May at the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre, is fast approaching. Given the proximity to the 2022 dates, we believe that cancellation to be the most appropriate action, to wait for a period where there is more stability, and to successfully set our exhibitors and sponsors up for a high return on investment next year.

While we are disappointed not to be able to host DesignBUILD this year, we are still planning to connect the built environment industry and support industry growth through a range of hybrid and digital events and opportunities, including the Be Summit this September and October and our new CPD BUILDer, launching in the coming months

DesignBUILD will run 10 – 12 May 2022 at the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre.

We want to provide you with as much flexibility as possible so that you have the confidence to continue to do business next year. We are committed to supporting the built environment industry and our customers by offering a number of options:

  1. Transferring your stand booking to DesignBUILD 2022 in Melbourne (MCEC, May 10-12)
  2. Transferring your investment to our Built Environment Summits in Melbourne and/or Sydney. This events are designed to be able to run 100% on line in the event of future lockdowns being in place
  3. Transferring your investment into delivering CPD accredited education and training modules across our new on-line portal
  4. Withdraw / Refund

Please note – for all exhibitors who have secured a business funding grant, we have been informed that funding can stay with a Grantee for rescheduled events as a result of COVID-19 up until 31 December 2022. We have reached out to the Business Events Grants team for more clarification and will provide more information on this as it comes to hand.

Should you wish to withdraw then the principles as set out under part (a) Cancellation will apply and all sums paid by the Exhibitor will be either (1) refunded by the Organiser to the Exhibitor within 14 days; or (2) if agreed between the parties (acting reasonably) held over to the next Exhibition or otherwise dealt with in any other manner agreed.

Should you like to speak to a member of our team about your specific exhibiting options, please contact your Client Manager.

For those with a booking for the 2021 event, you will simply be able to recontract your stand booking at the current stand rates (frozen from 2020). You can contact the team here or contact the event Client Manager directly for more information.

While the main exhibitions show floors won’t return until 2022, we are excited to still be planning to deliver our newest event brand the Be Summit, in both Melbourne and Sydney in September and October respectively.

The Be Summit is a one-day conference, bringing together Australia’s built environment leaders, government policymakers, and market experts to build a roadmap of recovery, and pave the way for future construction and development within Australia’s built environments. The summits are designed as hybrid events with both in person and virtual attendee options to ensure that these event can run regardless of restrictions. Find out more about the Be Summits here.

With a constantly evolving built environment we know how vital it is to stay on top of professional accreditation and that many of our exhibitors have products and courses that can keep our audience accredited. Our new CPD BUILDer platform, created and hosted by DesignBUILD, allows you to access one of Australia’s largest databases of built environment professionals, year-round and help build your brand as a certified thought leader.

We’ll be launching this new platform in the coming months, with a series of half day, online courses from already certified suppliers, with a focus on providing CPD topics that address current guidelines and the most-up-to-date technical information and applications for the industry. We’re taking expressions of interest in this new platform, so if you would like to find out more, contact the team.
